Take a look inside the jewel in Bond University rugby’s crown.

Bond University Rugby threw open the doors to their multimillion-dollar Fabian Fay Clubhouse on Saturday 21 April 2018, named after the late Gold Coast identity well-known for his work at Seaworld as well as in grassroots rugby.

The stunning structure includes a huge open area leading out to a covered deck overlooking the Bond Rugby field.

Other highlights include improved change rooms – for both male and female players – plus facilities for match officials and sports medics, as well as a boardroom.

The works have now raised Bond’s crowd capacity to about 3000.

Virginia Fay, widow of Fabian, was the lead donor for the project and described the clubhouse’s opening as a “very proud moment”.

“Walking in and seeing that beautiful honour board (is among my favourite parts) because as well as my contribution on there, there is also my vast Sydney family, The Rossi Foundation, who were also major donors,” Fay said.

“I love the inclusivity of the whole thing.

“And I love the fact that you can lean against that rail with a beer resting on it and watch a game of rugby.

“It’s all about camaraderie.”

Bond premier grade coach Grant Anderson spoke of how far the club has come since it started as the Gold Coast Breakers more than two decades ago.

“It’s a massive change,” he said.

“I was a foundation player at the Breakers, I played in the very first game and to see how far it has come to what we have got today is sensational.

“I knew Fabian as a president of the club when I was playing there and he was a great supporter of rugby and it’s great that this place is named in his honour.

“I don’t think they could have picked a better person to be honest.”
